Old Havana is located in the most ancient area in Havana City. Its urban layout reflects a mixture of architectural styles from different periodes. In this part there are remains of walls that protected the city for centuries against corsairs and pirates.
The ancient part of Havana City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1982 by UNESCO. Nowadays, Old Havana is one of the tourist areas of the city due to the restoration of fortresses, churches and other historic buildings.
Also in this part of the city we can find restaurants of all kinds: paladares (places where you can eat Cuban creole food) and gourmet and international restaurants.In addition, there are many libraries, museums and shops (clothes, handicrafts and souvenirs).
Life in Old Havana is very active due to the large number of tourists who arrive, and here are held craft and book fairs, art exhibitions, traditional dances with costumes from the colonial era.
