The Tryp Habana Libre Hotel, the most emblematic hotel in Havana, was called before 1959 the Hilton Hotel in Havana. It was the largest and most eye-catching than most of the Hilton group.
After Batista's fall, Fidel Castro chose the Habana Hilton Hotel as the temporary headquarters of the revolution and the government and renamed it the Habana Libre Hotel.
The Habana Libre Hotel, designed in the late 1950s, remains the spiritual center of much of the action in present-day Havana. Its location on a hill on the border of downtown Havana and Vedado are guarantees of its physical prominence and great visibility from almost all points of Havana.
