Sancti Spíritus, capital city of the province with the same name, almost in the center of the island is located 348 km from Havana City. The most important city, Sancti Spíritus, was one of the first towns founded in the the sixteenth century.

The city is crossed by the famous river called Yayabo on which it was built a bridge in 1817, considered as a jewel of colonial architecture. Sancti Spiritus also occupies a top place in the tobacco production in the country because of the volume of sales and production.

The territory is mostly mountainous and characterized by the presence of the Sierra de Sancti Spiritus, the easthern massif of Guamuahaya, with elevations of more than 800m high and large rivers, like Zaza river, flowing wildly in the narrow plain which separates the elevations in the south coast.
