Hotel E Palacio Iznaga

Hotel Palacio Iznaga. Almost opposite the Cantero palace, in Desengaño between Gloria and Media Luna, is this palace that belonged to Don Pedro Iznaga and Borrell, nephew of the Marquis of Guáimaro. Built in the early nineteenth century, it is a two-story house, so the entrance is through a hallway that occupies the first two bays.

Its design is very irregular because it was adjusted to the terrain that faces three streets. The house is exceptional for having a seven-meter prop on the ground floor, without having a mezzanine.

The monumental staircase has steps and partitions formed by slabs of black and white marble, with wooden edges. At the top, a continuous balcony faces two streets and its floor rests on double wooden hoops, while the railing is made of iron.

The patio floors are made of 10 by 20 cm clay tiles, the upper ones are marble, except for the dining room, which inexplicably had clay tiles, and the one in the living room or sewing room, which is made of Bremen tiles.
