Holguín is the capital city of the province with the same name, located to the northwest of the territory. It is the third city in Cuba by its population. The layout of the city is reticular with wide streets, and it is linked to Havana city by the Central road of Cuba, the central rail and by air. Holguín is an important city since the eighteenth century and maintains a leading position as a cultural and scientific center.

Near the city is located the mountains of Nipe - Sagua - Baracoa, with its highest point at "El Fraile hill" (325 m).

In the coastal areas of the Cuban province Holguin, an extensive tourist activity takes place, with representative beautiful beaches like Guardalavaca.
