Cuba is not only Havana and Varadero, said the representative of Cuba''s Tourism Ministry, Pablo Vazquez while presenting in Ecuador the Island''s tourist offers.
Vazquez, who is the Cuba's tourism representative for Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and Central America, added that Cuba has 10 international airports with connections with over 60 countries, seven marinas, three cruise terminals and 39 sites to practice diving, among other facilities.
According to Vazquez, "with such a diverse offer, close to the Ecuadorians, it is essential to increase the number of Ecuadorian tourists and for this purpose we organize these type of meetings with local tour operators and travel agents."
"We want to give them all the possibilities and help them establish a better coordination with our agencies and tour operators, he said, noting that from one million Ecuadorians who travelled abroad to vacation last year, barely 6,647 went to Cuba.
In this regard, he highlighted the connection facilities offered by Copa Airlines, local Tame and Avianca, whose representative in Ecuador, Vanessa Cordovez, announced that her firm plans to increase the frequency of flights to Havana very soon.
Meanwhile, Cuban Ambassador to Ecuador, Jorge Rodriguez, said that the process of normalization of relations with the United States, which may lead to an eventual lifting of travel ban restrictions affecting American citizens, does not mean that Cuba will abandon its traditional markets, like Ecuador.
In remarks to Prensa Latina, Alexandra Camacho, from Ecuadorian Mundo Valle travel agency, appreciated this opportunity to have forst hand information about the Cuban tourist product, mainly because it opens a window for more direct contacts with Cuban counterparts.
They sometimes take long time in answering to our requests, and we alose clients, she lamented, but hoped that onece all mechanisms are in place, Ecuador might send Cuba up to 20,000 tourists a year.
