Melia Hotels highlights Cuba as a safe tourist destination.
The spanish chain Meliá Hotels highlighted Cuba as a safe destination during the post-Covid-19 recovery stage, thanks to the successes of the local authorities in controlling the epidemiological situation.

"One of the great successes of the epidemiological situation in the country lies precisely in the recovery stages, that is, here it was understood with great success that the health of all Cubans had to be protected first," he said in statements to the press. Latina the representative of the company on the island, Francisco Camps.

The manager said that in terms of tourism, clear formulas were established for the different phases of recovery in the largest of the Antilles, with which it is intended to avoid any type of outbreak of the new coronavirus.

Camps pointed out that the opening of the hotels will occur as demand in the sector increases, although the chain is already ready to operate its facilities in Cayo Coco and Cay Santa María, where international flight operations could enter.

In this sense, he stressed that Cuba presents a favorable and controlled epidemiological situation with respect to other countries.

Today we know that the European Union allows its citizens to travel to a subset of 15 nations outside the bloc's borders, in which Cuba is unfortunately not included, he added.

However, he said that Canada could be another important source market once its citizens are allowed to travel. To the extent that Cuba can demonstrate to the world that it has a very well-managed situation, not only of the pandemic, but also of no outbreaks, hotel operations can be guaranteed in a state of safety for guests.

Camps also affirmed that in this stage of progressive lack of confidence, the chain already operates two hotels for the national market in the tourist pole of Varadero and one in the province of Holguín.

This next weekend we will have around 1,200 Cubans or residents who will stay in these hotels and will be able to verify all the security and protection measures implemented so that they can enjoy their vacation in a healthy and safe environment, he added.

Likewise, he reiterated that there are already areas in the country prepared to receive international tourism to the extent that air operations are restored and Cuba is recognized as one of the safest countries or tourist destinations.

On the other hand, Camps explained that during the stoppage due to the pandemic, the chain undertook a series of investments to improve its facilities, in order to offer its customers a better experience in a sanitary security environment.

Regarding the hotel that is being built in Trinidad, in the center of the country, he announced that it - with more than 400 rooms - is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2021, reflecting the firm commitment of Meliá Hotels International to the goals of expansion raised in Cuba.
