JetBlue Airways Corporation and Delta Air Lines announce new charters from New York to Havana
JetBlue Airways Corporation has launched charter flights from New York to Havana. JetBlue will be the first airline to introduce flights to Cuba after decades.

The airline launched the flight services following President Barak Obama’s decision to soften ties with Cuba and has also been operating flights to Cuba through its partnership with a Cuban charter operator. The US seized its trade and tourism with Cuba in 1961. Mr. Laurence added: “JetBlue is positioning itself as a leading carrier to the island nation by operating more convenient flight options than ever.”

Along with the current flight services, JetBlue also launched its new ticketing policy starting July 1. The airline will now be charging its passengers to check in bags travelling through the lowest-fare flights. However, the airline still offers one free bag check in for its premium flights. Airline officials remain confident that the airline will generate approximately $200 million from the new bag check policy by the end of next year.

JetBlue announced that the Cuba Travel Services Inc. will offer flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport. The flights will be offered every Friday. Through the launch of these flights, JetBlue will now be operating five weekly flights to Cuba through its partnering company. Other flights include routes between Tampa and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood.

Considering Mr. Obama’s eased restrictions on trade with Cuba, other US airlines, including Delta Air Lines, Inc. and United Continental Holdings Inc. , are also looking to launch flights to Cuba. The US still does not allow its citizens to visit Cuba as tourists. However, the citizens can visit for 12 reasons, which include family, professional, religious, academic, or educational programs.

Another important flight service, which was a milestone for JetBlue, was the launch of premium flights from Boston to New York and Los Angeles. The company announced to launch its Mint cabin flight on these routes, which received more than expected attraction. Considering the high demand, Delta Air Lines also announced that it would launch flights on the same routes in the third and fourth quarter of this year.
