On June 28 opened the Hotel Four Points by Sheraton, the first US hotel to operate in Cuba since 1959. The formerly known as the Hotel "Fifth Avenue" located in Miramar is one of two hotels Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide chain agreed to manage a multimillion-dollar agreement with Cuba in March.
Thanks in part to the relaxation of travel restrictions in the US, the number of visitors to Cuba increased by 13.5 percent in the first four months of 2016 with a total of a million and a half tourists. It is expected that these numbers fatten if the US just lifting the ban on travel to the Greater Antilles completely.
In Cuba, there are many hotels that have "closed doors" due to no availability of funding for administrative management or repair. This causes the accommodation capacity is very low. However, the incursion of Starwood can mean the starting point for many other US companies decide to "invest" and manage new hotels to cater to foreign tourists.
