Also the American Carnival Cruise Lineexpanded its routes to the Greater Antilles, with the addition of 23 trips to the Caribbean, with stopovers in Havana in 2019-2020.
This firm was the first to land in Cuba in 2016, an event that occurred after 50 years of isolation and thanks to the exceptional permits granted by the Treasury Department under the administration of President Barack Obama.
Until then, the Island was excluded from the cruise routes in the Caribbean, the first worldwide market for this activity, with an offer of seven thousand itineraries that cover 26 States and territories.
The main ports of Cuba are in Havana, Cienfuegos, Santiago de Cuba and Cayo Largo del Sur, with international entrances and exits, while the points of Casilda, Antillas, Puerto Francés and María La Gorda also appear.
At the opening of the last International Tourism Fair Marrero said that actions are taken to meet the high demand for cruise operations and ensure the quality of services, in an environment of preservation of the environment.
The existence of an important investment program that will increase the two cruise terminals in Havana to six by 2024 was recently announced.
