Several Canadian airlines express interest in resuming their flights to Cuba between September and October, a specialized media reported today.
According to the report that appeared on the site of PAX Global Media, a leader in the travel trade industry in the northern country, Air Transat intends to fly from Montreal and Toronto to the island on October 2, and Air Canada believes it can do so from September 4.
For its part, Sunwing Airlines announced that it will offer a limited schedule for September with flights also from Toronto and Montreal to the western Cuban destinations of Varadero and Cayo Coco.
The report also highlights that the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, in association with the Ministry of Public Health, implemented a rigorous certification program in the Caribbean nation for members of the leisure industry.
He elaborated that the new program aims to provide an overview of health and safety protocols for hotels, non-hotel and support services, transportation and other companies in the tourism sector.
The required documents and entry requirements for Cuba are the same and a prior test is not required before departure or a quarantine upon arrival, he said.
After their arrival in Cuba, he reported, travelers will undergo a temperature control and a free Covid-19 test whose results are available within 24 hours.
Masks are mandatory at the airport and on the bus during the transfer to the hotel and, once in the facilities, there are health, safety and physical distancing protocols, so no mask is required within the tourist complex, the report added.
The source also described that there is a detailed care procedure if a case is positive.
Cuba reopened its doors to international tourism last July exclusively for the keys Largo (south-west), Coco, Guillermo, Cruz, and Santa María (center-north), with programs including excursions, car rental and other services of animation.
PAX Global Media reported that there are no permanent residents living on these islets open for international tourism, so no cases of Covid-19 are reported there.
